BANDUNG –Sejarah baru tengah ditorehkan di Jawa Barat. Setelah puluhan tahun hanya sebatas wacana, akhirnya pemekaran Kabupaten Cirebon Timur resmi disetujui DPRD Jawa Barat bersama Gubernur Jabar dalam rapat paripurna di Bandung, Rabu (10/9/2025).
Kabupaten baru ini bakal menaungi 16 kecamatan dengan luas wilayah 446,57 km², di antaranya Astanajapura, Babakan, Ciledug, hingga Waled. Jika benar-benar terbentuk, Cirebon Timur akan menjadi salah satu dari 10 Calon Daerah Persiapan Otonomi Baru (CDPOB) di Jawa Barat yang tengah diajukan ke pemerintah pusat.
Kabupaten Cirebon saat ini terbentang sangat luas: 40 kecamatan, 424 desa/kelurahan, dan lebih dari 2,4 juta penduduk.Kondisi tersebut membuat pelayanan publik sering kali tidak merata.
Wakil Ketua DPRD Jabar, Ono Surono menegaskan bahwa pemekaran ini bukan sekadar memisahkan wilayah, tapi misi besar untuk memaksimalkan pelayanan, mempercepat pembangunan infrastruktur dasar, dan pemerataan ekonomi.
“Cirebon luas sekali, dengan jumlah penduduk yang sangat besar. Tentunya pelayanan publik harus dimaksimalkan,” tegas Ono.
