Kasat Reskrim menambahkan, modus penggelapan kendaraan dengan berpura-pura menjadi penyewa ini bukanlah hal baru. Polres Kuningan mencatat adanya peningkatan laporan kasus serupa dalam beberapa bulan terakhir. Pelaku biasanya memanfaatkan kelengahan atau rasa percaya pemilik rental. Setelah dipercaya, kendaraan dibawa pergi, digadaikan, atau dijual ke pihak lain, sehingga sulit dilacak.
“Biasanya pelaku menggunakan identitas palsu atau memanfaatkan kelengahan pemilik rental. Setelah dipercaya, kendaraan dibawa pergi dan sulit dilacak,” ungkap Azis, seraya menambahkan bahwa penyelidikan masih dikembangkan untuk mengetahui apakah ada korban lain dengan modus yang sama.
Mengantisipasi kerugian lebih lanjut di masyarakat, IPTU Abdul Azis mengimbau masyarakat, khususnya para pengusaha rental mobil, agar meningkatkan kehati-hatian dalam menerima calon penyewa. “Jangan mudah percaya pada penyewa yang baru dikenal. Pastikan identitasnya benar, minta jaminan kuat, dan buat kontrak sewa yang sah secara hukum,” tegasnya.
Selain upaya preventif hukum, ia juga menyarankan pemilik rental agar memasang alat pelacak GPS tracker di kendaraan. “Teknologi bisa membantu mencegah kerugian besar. Karena jika kendaraan sudah berpindah tangan, proses hukumnya akan panjang dan rumit,” ujarnya.
Kasus ini menjadi pengingat bagi publik bahwa praktik penggelapan dengan modus penyewaan kendaraan masih marak terjadi di Kabupaten Kuningan. Aparat kepolisian berharap kewaspadaan masyarakat meningkat, sementara penyidik terus mendalami kemungkinan adanya jaringan yang lebih luas di balik aksi tunggal AS.
“Kami tidak menutup kemungkinan pelaku terlibat dalam jaringan penggelapan kendaraan lintas daerah. Karena itu, penyelidikan masih kami lanjutkan,” tutup IPTU Abdul Azis. (ali)
