Secara historis, lahirnya pemerintahan Kuningan merupakan amanah Waliyulloh Syech Syarif Hidayatullah atau Sunan Gunung Jati kepada Pangeran Arya Kamuning, putera Ki Gedeng Luragung yang diserahkan kepadanya sebelum datangnya kolonialis. Penganugerahan gelar Adipati Kuningan kepada Arya Kamuning bukan hanya bentuk pengaturan tata pemerintahan, tetapi juga langkah terstruktur syiar Islam di wilayah Kuningan dan sekitarnya.
Peraturan Daerah Nomor 21/Dp.003/XII/1978 menegaskan bahwa 1 September 1498 adalah tonggak sejarah kepemimpinan putera angkat Waliyulloh tersebut. Meski kemudian pada 5 Januari 1819 pemerintah kolonial membentuk Kabupaten Kuningan, masyarakat tetap bersepakat merayakan Hari Jadi ke-527 pada 1 September 2025.
Kuningan adalah daerah tua dengan warisan sejarah dan spiritual yang panjang. Di usia yang ke-527 ini, saya mengajak seluruh masyarakat untuk terus berkontribusi nyata di bawah kepemimpinan Kang Dr. H. Dian Rachmat Yanuar, M.Si dan Amih Tuti Andriani, SH., M.Kn. Hidupkan kembali spirit silih asih, silih asah, silih asuh, dan silih wangian dalam setiap sendi kehidupan.
